Doing Pot

Oh dear the boys have got into pot !

Well when I say Pot I really mean Tubs, but that isn't as funny. I bought seven tubs in Sainsburys for £2.99 - they are a set from large to small. The boys have played and played with these. Mostly ramming them on either their own heads, each others heads, or my head !

Well at least they are easily pleased.

House of the rising Sons

Saturday night was not a goodnight !
Julia came over to stay and we all had a nice evening. But at 11.30pm Ben woke up, so I went to sort him out, after I had checked him and knew he was ok, I went back to bed. But it quickly became apparent he was not going to sleep. We left him for an hour but he kept on crying and crying. So in the end I got up and took him downstairs and tried to cuddle with him in the lounge. But he kept on fidgeting and wouldn't settle. In the end he just got up and played on the floor. We had given him something for his teeth, as he is just cutting the last few back teeth now, it must be painful for him. By 3am he was starting to flag and eventually he just lay down on the floor and went to sleep. He didn't want to fall asleep with me on the sofa :-(

At 3.45am he woke again, but within minutes he was fast asleep, again on the floor. He slept on then until about 6am and then woke up.

Harry slept through the whole thing, he was the only one. Carol & Julia didn't get much sleep either.

Ben was pretty quiet once he woke up, he must have been so tired bless him.

I took this photo last Friday, Ben looks so big / grown up in this photo.

Harry sleeps through the nigth really well again now, but his midday sleeps are getting shorter and shorter. This is a natural progression and I guess before long he won't want to sleep at all. The daft thing is when he does wake up, it is usually after about 45 mins, but he is so sleepy and just wants to cuddle. Quite often he falls back to sleep again for another 30 mins or so. This is nice as you get a good snuggle with him. But it does mean during the week I don't really get a break now at midday. I find it hard to get anything done around the house in this 30-45 minute window.

Here is a photo of Harry, having a post sleep, snuggle with Carol on Saturday.

Happy 2nd Birthday !

On Sunday 21st Jan it was Harry & Bens' second birthday. I can't believe they are two years old already. My Mum came down to stay on the Friday and stayed for a long weekend. Which was lovely. On Saturday, Carol & Mum took the boys swimming and I had a rest for a while which was nice. On the boys birthday we had an open house and all of Carols' family popped in at various times of throughout the day. It was a really good day and the boys had a great time. As usual they were spoilt rotten.

Harry is learning new stuff at an amazing rate now. In the past week he has learnt to recognise all the numbers from 1 through to 10 and you can show him any of these numbers and he will tell you what they are. Our friend Julia bought them some wooden dominos and numbers, Harry was playing with them and realised on his own that if you turn a 6 upside down it turns into a 9, no one showed him that, he worked it out on his own. This week he has also learnt Ears, Eyes, Nose & Mouth. He also gives a big sigh and lays down and says 'Sleepsee' (He can't say Sleepy properly yet, it's very cute). I am sure I have heard Ben say new words, but when you try to get him to say them again he won't. I am convience Ben can say a great deal, he just can't be bothered just yet. Probably because he can't get a word in edge ways with chatter box Harry around :-)

More daft comments

I went to Tescos this week to get some stuff for the weekend. It will be the boys second birthday and I bought them a Thomas the Tank Engine cake. So when I get to the tills the women serving comes out with the usual, 'Oh are they twins' - 'Which one is the naughty one' etc. So I say yes they are twins and no they aren't naughty really, they are both pretty good.

Then the cake comes down the conveyor belt and she looks at it and then turns to me and says.......

'Oh is it one of their birthdays'

So I just look at her and smile and you can see the coggs slowly starting to turn, eventually with a mental clang I swear you could hear, the penny drops.

'Oh it's both of their birthdays, they are twins aren't they'

Oh dear god !

Anyway back in the land of the living, I had just changed Bens nappy and he as usual was having a crying fit over it. He hates having his nappy changed ? So I am just putting the change mat and box away and I turn back round to see Ben lying on the floor still having a good cry, when Harry walks up to him, bends over and starts to tickle him under the chin to cheer him up, at the same time saying 'Tickle tickle tickle'. Very sweet and loving. Ben finds this hysterical and the crying turns to fits of giggles. Spurred on by this Harry decides to take the unusual next method of cheering Ben up,ie to sit on Ben's stomach and bounce up and down.

As it turns out Ben thought this was even funnier and the two of them proceded to have a right old wrestle.

It is lovely to see them really interacting now, they are a constant source of amusement.

I don't have a photo this time that I have taken, but I did get a photo from my sister in law, well she is my Brother in laws girlfriend, but we are keeping our fingers crossed :-)

Here is the photo Emma took when we went away for Roberts 40th birthday weekend, (see previous post).

There you go !

Harry & Ben are starting the New Year with flying colours. They are coming on nicely and we are happy with their development. Harry can now count to 11 and is saying all sorts of things. It is funny you never teach your children guilt but some how they discover it themselves. Quite often when we tell Harry off, I will just say sternly 'Harry!' and he will turn and look at me with this little guilty expression and say 'oh dear - no' and he knows he was doing something wrong. It is hard not to laugh.

Harry is also being very sweet with Ben. Ben is going through a phase of hating having his nappy changed and he will get himself really worked up about it. When he gets really upset Harry doesn't like it and he will come over to Ben and gently stroke the back of Ben's head to comfort him.

For some reason Harry has started to wake up each morning at 4.30am, he always goes back to sleep but by the time he has had his little cry, both Carol & I are awake.

Ben is funny, he has the greatest sense of humour and is always giggle at funny things we do or he sees on TV. He still isn't saying a large amount, we have heard him say 1,2,3 but not very often. He has a very cute wave and says 'Iiiii' for both 'Hi' and 'Bye'. We were getting a little worried at his lack of interest in talking, but then the other day he walked over to Carol and gave her one of his toys and clear as a bell said to her 'There you go', then he turned and walked away !!!

So he can talk, we are convinced he knows loads more then he lets on, it's just that he can't be bothered to talk at the moment.

He is very clever, he really examines things and you can see the coggs turning, he is constantly working out how to do things or open things, or climb on top of things.

We have a sofa in the lounge next to a cupboard, on top of which is our phone. We have had to lay the back sofa cushions face down on the front cushions to make the sofa too high for the boys to climb on, to prevent them getting into the corner where the electrics are, or getting to the phone. (see previous entries for the boys exploits on this sofa). The other day they had got onto the sofa despite our attempts to keep them off, how ???

Carol saw Ben, he walked up to the sofa and lifted the top cushion up and then climbed onto the sofa between the top cushion ( the back one) and the front cushion (that you sit on), he crawled between these cushions to come out at the back of the sofa and then turned round and helped Harry up by moving the cushions a bit. He is one smart boy!

It is their 2nd birthday soon - where has the time gone ! - I will try and get them weighed one last time prior to their birthday, too see how they are doing weight gain wise.

I took some photos last night, as the boys were just finishing having their bath.
