Paediatrician, Pounds (lbs) and Puddings

The boys went for, what turned out to be, their last visit with their Paediatrician. He was very pleased with both Harry & Ben and very impressed that Harry could count (recite) 1 through to 6. Apparently that is very good for a 20 month old !

They were both weighed whilst there and the scores were:

In first place with a whopping 25.7 lbs is Harry, closely followed by Ben at 24.4 lbs !

The boys are eating toast and sandwiches now as well as their baby food. Last night we fed them and they still looked a little hungry so they had yogurt as well. Now they had been playing out at Mottisfont Abbey and were messy anyway so we hadn't bothered with bibs as they were having sandwiches and dried fruit for tea. But we kind of forgot to put bibs on when we gave them the yogurt, but then thought well, they are messy anyway and their clothes are going straight into the wash. So we gave them yogurt, but we also thought that Harry was ready to try eating with a spoon on his own. Harry coped very well, he had several spoons of yogurt all by himself then decided that this was much too slow and as he was in charge why not just tip the bowl over, scoop up the yogurt from the high chair tray and eat it with his hands ! When this proved to be equally slow, he just went for the 'licking the bowl' approach.

Birthday Surprise !

It's been 10 days since I last wrote, what have I been up to ?
Getting older for one thing, I am now 38 - how depressing :-(

Spent the weekend before last doing house work with Carol,
ready for my Mum coming down on Monday the 11th Sept. She
couldn't make it on the following day, Tuesday 12th, my birthday
so she came a day early.

Had a lovely day with my Mum, she always enjoys spending time
with the boys and they love her just as much. Evening came and
Carol came home from work with three surprises.

1) She had secretly arranged for my Mum to come down and stay
for three days. Monday through to Wednesday.

2) Carol and booked Tuesday off from work to spend the day with
me on my birthday.

3) We were all going out to Exbury Gardens and meeting Carol's
Mum & Dad there for a family day out.

So, my Birthday came, I had some lovely presents, stuff for my
computer set up and some vouchers which I have put to very good
use.

After breakfast we all set off for our day out, we got to Exbury
got the pram out of the boot of my car only to find that it's tyre
was flat. Pumping it up only made it worse and it want totally flat.

So I left Carol and my Mum in the Exbury cafe having a cup of tea and
watching the boys, whilst I dashed off to the nearest town to get a local
bike shop to fit a new inner tube.

I was only gone about 45 minutes and by the time I got back Carol's Mum
and Dad had arrived. So we all set off for a walk around the gardens.

Here are some photos:

This pheasant turned up and strutted around us, about two feet away, the boys thought it was great, despite that fact that it was missing half it's tail and had definitely seen better days:

In the evening we all went back to our house and had a lovely meal and talked for ages. It was a great birthday and a lot better than last years !

On Saturday just gone, we attacked the rest of the house work and got ourselves ready for a visit from my cousin Stephen and his wife Alison, their two daughters Sophie and Emma and Alison's Mum.

They have just moved down here from Yorkshire and due to this distance I haven't seen much of them over the past decade or so ! In fact I saw them twice, which isn't enough as they are lovely people and good company.

So they all came to visit on Sunday and we had a really nice day with them. I meant to take a photo but I forgot !

So that was what I have been up to for the past 10 days. I put the boys to bed for their midday sleep 30 minutes ago, I can still hear Ben chatting to himself. He might not be tired, but I am. So I am going to stop writing now and go and have 40 winks myself, well if Ben keeps the noise down and we all get some peace and quiet :-)

Explorers

I thought we had the lounge sorted now. Everywhere was baby proofed, no way they could get anywhere they weren't supposed to.

So thinking that they were in a totally safe environment I left the room to quickly get dressed.

In the meantime, the boys pulled a cushion off the sofa and placed it on the floor. This gave them just enough extra height to be able to climb on to the sofa. From there they went to the sofa arm and must have dropped/fallen down from the arm of the chair to get into the corner with the lamp.

Luckily they didn't play with any of the electrics in the corner, but as you can imagine it gave me a hell of a scare.

Here is the photo caught in the act, at least they both look suitably guilty:

Don't drink the water........

Harry & Ben are bathed together, it makes bath time fun and they splash about. Carol & I enjoy watching them being little water babies.

For some reason only known to himself Harry decided to try and drink the bath water the other night. He was sat in the bath and just lent forward and started to drink the bath water.

This was a somewhat dodgy idea for two reasons:

1) It's not just bath water, it also has Dermol 600 in it which is an anti bacteria skin conditioner.

2) At the precise moment that Harry decided to take a sip Ben decided to pee in the bath.

So there was Harry sat bent over with his lips trying to suck up the water, whilst Ben was stood in the bath, right next to him practically peeing on his head.

Luckily we were both sat next to the bath and were able to sit Harry up and move Ben away instantly.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This week has been hard work, Harry & Ben are both teething, Ben has started on four new teeth, back ones. So that makes a total of 12 teeth now for Ben

Harry we think is teething, but no signs of any news ones yet, he still has just the four teeth so he is due a load more soon, if he is to catch up with Ben. He is showing all the symptoms and is very clingy, I can't leave the room, otherwise he cries and then Ben cries because Harry is. Harry wants to cuddle all the time, which is sort of nice, but he won't sit still and is clambering over me all the time. It is very wearing.

They are both very whiny and the slightest thing brings on floods of tears and tantrums. My toy car has fallen on it's side - whaaaaaa - These mega block bricks won't stick together - whaaaaa - You get the idea.

By the time Carol comes home my nerves are fried and I am totally knackered.

Hopefully these teeth will cut soon and they will be back to their bouncy fun selves.

When the boys have their midday nap for about an hour and a half to two hours, I have been having a sleep as well. Trying to catch up with my sleep that I've lost over the past couple of nights as their teething has meant they haven't slept as well as they normally do.

Bye for now.
