Uncle Roberts Birthday
I have a good excuse for not writing for a few days, we've been away !
Harry & Ben's Uncle Robert was 40 last weekend and all of Carol's family went away on a long weekend. We rented a house on the cliffs over looking Salcombe bay in Devon. Now when I say a house, it is doing it an injustice. This place must be worth about £3 million, no I am not joking. We went into the nearest town and looked in the estate agents windows, there were slightly smaller places on sale for around £2.5 million !
So there was Carol & I, Harry & Ben, then Robert and his wife Karen and their three daughters, Amy, Emma & Heather. Then there was Carol's Mum & Dad, and Carol's Nan and last but not least was Carol's other brother John and his partner, Emma.
The directions to the place were spot on, but the journey wasn't easy, very narrow roads, as you'd expect in deepest darkest Devon, and huge hills. By the time we had got to the house all our clutches and engines were smelling strongly.
The house was upside down, with the lounge dining room, conservatory and kitchen, hallway and one bedroom on the top floor. On the next floor down was a laundry room, four double bedrooms. Then on the next floor down from that, (accessed from outside down a path) was separate annex that was another double bedroom.
We all had a great time and really enjoyed the house. We arrived on the Friday afternoon and stayed until Monday morning.
On Saturday we went to a theme park nearby, Woodlands Leisure Park. This was a real giggle, the bit we went to was indoors and large play area, with loads of padded areas and ball pools for little kids, and then large matt slide and drop slides for big kids (ie us the parents). The drop slide was such a laugh, you basic fall a short distance and the wall behind you curls out to form a slide you end up on, you then shoot down it further over a small rise and then fly into a massive ball pool, which you then have to try and climb out of using a cargo net.
Saturday night we paid a lady to come to the house and cater for us. She cooked us a lovely three course meal and we celebrated Roberts 40th in style.
On Sunday we all went out to a nearby hotel for a family Sunday lunch. Harry & Ben were brilliant, we fed them before we set off and they sat in their high chairs and played with their Aquadraw pads beautifully for 2 hours whilst we had our lunch, so well behaved.
Anyway, enough waffle, here are the pictures:
